More on courage and fear

For the past few months I’ve been reflecting on the statement in 2 Timothy 1:7 – “for God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.” (NASV) God has placed within us His Spirit to face the fears we all have. And the Spirit will move us to take actions that reflect His power, love, and control. As we end a year and a decade, it could be good to reflect on what has held us back from being all that we can and want to be, the kind of people God has created us to be.

His power within us as Jesus-followers wants to change us, and to give us power: strength to take action and overcome internal and external resistance; love: the selfless and sacrificial orientation toward others that does not judge or condemn, but gives grace and compassion; and discipline: the word here is unique, but I see this as a wise sensibility combined with a focus that give structure and accountability to our lives.

Imagine if those three character traits are yours and mine, and growing each day? Look for opportunities to express these each day. Pray to not shrink back when that opportunity comes, or to at least be aware of when that opportunity comes, even if you fail the first time…and the next.

Don’t condemn yourself if you fail. Just confess it, and ask for the next opportunity. Keep abiding in the presence of Jesus to experience His power. Even take a moment and recreate that opportunity, and how you want to respond the next time. Cause there will definitely be a next time.

  2. This is how the Holy Spirit moves you. And will move those that believe in these words from Christ Jesus our Lord. Words that come from our Creator, Almighty God, Heavenly Father. Jesus knows our Heavenly Father and we want to know him too. For they are Holy Father and Son. This is such an opportunity to say what you would say if you could say it again. Amen 🙏💞😇
Jesus I surrender to you, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, I will go, do, say and give for your honor and glory. Amen 🙏💞😇
